Hi friend,
Welcome to Yellow Cocina, I’m so glad you’re here. Truth is, I wrote this post almost a year ago and never hit publish but realized today is the day and nothing will ever be perfect enough. So here are my thoughts from a year ago.
If we were chatting in my kitchen right now, I’d probably hand you a slice of something warm from the oven while my girls ran circles around us. Worship music would be playing, flour on my shirt, and we’d talk about motherhood, recipes, or what’s keeping us going these days.
That’s the heart of Yellow Cocina, real food, real life, and the joy of nourishing others.
How Yellow Cocina Began
The idea for Yellow Cocina first came to me in the summer of 2020. I was a new mom with a 4-month-old, working part-time, and trying to make sense of the world during a pandemic. In the middle of nap times and quiet moments, I started dreaming.
I researched food blogs, thought about starting a YouTube channel (spoiler: I didn’t), and started imagining what my corner of the internet could look like. That Christmas, my husband surprised me by buying the yellowcocina.com domain…his way of saying, go for it.
In early 2021, we moved in with my parents for a few months, then made the big move to Kentucky that summer. We started renovating our kitchen, thinking now’s the time! But then… we found out we were expecting again, and that dream quietly got tucked away.
Then Life Got Full
By summer 2022, I had a toddler, a newborn, and very little time, but I never stopped feeding people. Hosting, baking, cooking from scratch…that’s always been how I show love.
That season also brought a big shift in how we thought about food. My husband started digging into the ingredients in everyday products and gently encouraged me to read the labels.
So I did.
I started paying attention at the store, replacing bleached flour with organic, ditching boxed mixes, swapping oils and pantry staples for better-for-you options. That simple act of awareness made me fall in love with the kitchen all over again.
As I got more comfortable making things from scratch, I started thinking, maybe Yellow Cocina could actually happen... soon. But God had other plans. At the start of 2023, we found out I was pregnant—again. Surprise baby girl! You know that saying, “Want to make God laugh? Tell Him your plans”? Yeah… that hit home. The truth is, I had been dreaming and planning all this time without really inviting God into any of it. Our not-so-little daughter joined us that fall, and by then, I had already convinced myself sourdough was going to be my next big adventure forget the whole having a newborn thing.
Then Came Sourdough
In February of 2024, I finally joined the sourdough club, thanks to all the inspiring moms I saw online and my dear friend Amanda’s starter. It’s been a beautiful, bubbly journey, and I’ll share more about that next week.
But just know:
Yes, there will be sourdough.
Because this humble little starter has taught me so much about patience, provision, and the beauty of slow, intentional food.
